Description
AIVA AI review
AI music composition tool built for orchestral, cinematic, and structured musical genres. AIVA (Artificial Intelligence Virtual Artist) generates full compositions with real musical structure — intros, build-ups, dynamics, and emotional arcs — rather than simple loops. Supports 250+ styles including classical, cinematic, electronic, pop, ambient, and jazz.
AIVA’s primary differentiators are musical structure and control. Generated tracks have coherent compositional arcs, not repetitive loops. A built-in Piano Roll editor allows note-by-note editing of compositions. Tracks export as MP3, WAV, orchestrated MIDI, and reduced MIDI — the MIDI export is particularly valuable for composers who want to continue editing in their DAW or notation software.
250+ composition styles
From Modern Cinematic to Classical Piano, Sea Shanty, Jazz Lounge, Tango, and Electronic. Each style produces genre-appropriate instrumentation and structure.
Piano Roll editor
View and edit generated compositions note by note in a built-in Piano Roll. Adjust timing, pitch, velocity, and instrumentation after generation.
MIDI export
Export compositions as orchestrated MIDI or reduced MIDI for further editing in any DAW (Logic Pro, Ableton, Cubase) or notation software (Finale, Sibelius).
Reference audio upload
Upload an existing audio or MIDI file to guide AIVA’s generation toward a specific style or feel.
Custom style models
Create custom style models from uploaded reference compositions for consistent stylistic output.
Student and educator discount

Copyright structure: On the Free and Standard plans, AIVA retains copyright of all compositions. You can use them (under licence) but cannot claim ownership. Full copyright transfers to you only on the Pro plan (€33/month annual). If you intend to release music commercially, license it for film/TV/games, or publish it as your own composition, Pro is the only applicable plan.

AIVA’s ethical AI music model is relatively transparent. The system was trained on a curated dataset of classical and orchestral compositions. AIVA was registered as a composer with SACEM (Societe des Auteurs, Compositeurs et Editeurs de Musique) in 2016 — a notable milestone recognising AI-generated music within a formal rights framework. The copyright model is clearly tiered and documented. The platform explicitly states the distinction between plans, which is more transparent than many AI tools where licensing terms are buried in terms of service.

QUESTIONS
Does AIVA give me copyright ownership?
No — not on the free or Standard plans. On the Standard plan (€11/month annual), AIVA retains copyright but grants you a licence to monetise on YouTube, Twitch, TikTok, and Instagram. Full copyright transfers to you only on the Pro plan (€33/month annual). If you want to claim the music as your own composition or license it for film/TV/games, Pro is required.
Is AIVA free?
A free plan is available for non-commercial use only. You must credit ‘Music by AIVA’ on all published work. Downloads are limited to 3/month as MP3. For any monetised content, the Standard plan (€11/month annual) is the minimum.
What music styles does AIVA support?
AIVA supports 250+ styles including Modern Cinematic, Classical Piano, Orchestral, Electronic, Pop, Ambient, Folk Rock, Jazz Lounge, Tango, Sea Shanty, and more. New styles are added regularly.
Can I edit AIVA compositions?
Yes. The built-in Piano Roll editor allows note-by-note editing after generation. All paid plans also include MIDI export (reduced MIDI on Standard, orchestrated MIDI on Pro), enabling full editing in any professional DAW or notation software.
